Samsung’s ‘Walk Mode’ app tells you when you need to stop looking at your phone

Most of us have either been that person who uses their phone so much they run into something or we’ve seen someone who did exactly that. It’s a problem that is solved as easily as being aware of your surroundings, but some people just can’t look up from their conversation enough to do that.

Samsung’s R&D out of India recently devised a solution to this called “Walk Mode.” The new app is available for download in the Play Store, with some region locks, and is advertised as being able to sense when there’s danger in front of you while walking around and tell you to look up from your screen.

Samsung’s next Gear VR headset might include a wireless controller like Google’s Daydream View

Samsung helped usher in the premium mobile VR experience a couple of years ago with the debut of the Gear VR headset. In the time since, that headset has evolved slightly to offer better viewing angles, improved comfort, and of course, to accommodate new devices from the company. Comment: Samsung’s first commercial for the Galaxy S8’s DeX Dock makes me want a laptop with the same capabilities

The idea of powering your workstation with your smartphone is something that feels like it was ripped out of a TV show, but with our powerful smartphones today, it’s something that is very much achievable.

With the launch of its latest flagship, the Galaxy S8, Samsung stressed the phone’s ability to dock to a monitor and display a full desktop environment powered by the phone. Now Samsung is finally advertising the feature, and I still can’t stop thinking about how much better this would be as a laptop.

Rumors indicate that Samsung’s Galaxy S8 could be a VR powerhouse thanks to ARM’s new GPU

Samsung may not be going through one of its best moments —offsetting a generally positive 2016 — but that doesn’t mean that the company is standing still; quite the opposite, in fact. Deal: Samsung’s Android Wear-powered Gear Live is now just $79

When Android Wear was initially unveiled as a smartwatch platform, only a couple of manufacturers were ready with hardware right at the outset. LG had the plastic square G Watch, and Samsung had the Android-based version of its pre-existing Galaxy Gear. Of those two, the Gear Live was certainly the more appealing.

As new companies jump onboard and new watches are released, that usually means tasty discounts for the old gadgets. In this case, it’s a very healthy discount. Samsung’s Gear Live is available now from a trusted seller on eBay for just .

If you’re an Android user who isn’t certain on the benefits of having a wearable connected device (or a smartwatch), snagging an older generation for little outlay is a fairly safe way of testing the water. Sure, you won’t get the sharpest screen, the fastest processor or the classiest design, but you will get a very basic taster for what Android Wear is like to use every day. It’ll certainly save you from spending 0 or more on something like the Moto 360, Huawei Watch or recently released Fossil Q Founder.

It might even make a decent stocking-stuffer to go alongside some of our other favorite ideas for holiday gifts. Of course, be sure to keep an eye out on 9to5Toys’ Black Friday Deals page for up to date news on all the best deals over the next week.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 could sport a front panel that would bring the screen-to-body ratio to 90%

If there’s one thing that’s sure over at Samsung‘s headquarters, it’s that after the Galaxy Note 7‘s debacle the company will really need to nail it when the time for its next flagship smartphone comes. The firm’s engineers and designers are hard at work to bring the Galaxy S8 on time — and safely — and some more information may help us paint a clearer picture of what’s to come…
