PSA: Unlike LG’s G5, the Galaxy S7 doesn’t have support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0

Battery life is undoubtedly one of the major pain points most consumers have with their smartphones. Because of technological limitations, OEMs often have to find workarounds for squeezing out as much screen on (and off) time as possible, often working on software optimizations or simply trying to fit a larger unit inside the body of the device – at times making it removable.

Another way of circumventing such limitation took form in the way of making batteries recharge much faster, thanks to technologies such as Qualcomm‘s ‘Quick Charge’, which has now arrived at its v3.0. Expected to hit the majority of 2016 flagships, – like the LG G5, which does indeed support it – the latest iteration didn’t however make it to the Samsung Galaxy S7 (and S7 edge), which stuck with last year’s 2.0

Allo gets its first big update w/ app shortcuts, landscape support, quick reply, and more

Allo was pretty bare bones when it first launched, but just as Google promised, the app is going to evolve over time to — hopefully — become a messaging client to compete with the likes of Facebook Messenger and even Google’s own apps like Hangouts. LG unveils the Quick Cover case for the still unannounced G5

Even though the phone hasn’t even been announced yet, LG today has taken the wraps off of its first case for its upcoming G5 flagship. The case is a new version of the Quick Cover case that the company has offered the past and incorporates many of the features that the LG K10’s Quick Cover View case featured.

Gboard 6.1 adds quick access to Google Translate, redesigned theme picker, more

Update 3/9: Gboard 6.1 is now out of beta and beginning to roll out to Android devices. All features from the beta have made their way into the final version, with Google also noting that emojis and GIF searches now appear in the suggestion strip, while search now supports right-to-left languages.


In its first update since being rebranded in January, Gboard for Android is adding a number of new features and customizations. Version 6.1.59 is currently in beta, but users can easily sign-up to get the latest version from the Play Store.

Google app prepares for Google Lens, working on Search UI redesign, quick search bar in notifications, more [Video]

Google Lens is one of the most exciting launches coming from Google this year. A look at the latest Google app beta (version 7.9) reveals more about the visual search feature, its interface, and how it could be activated. Meanwhile, Google is working on adding a Quick Search bar to notifications and a redesigned Search interface. Other changes include an updated screenshot editing feature and minor tweaks to Google Assistant.

WhatsApp beta update includes Quick Reply popup, solid color wallpapers, more

WhatsApp is preparing a new set of features for its Android users, many of which have been on my wish-list for many years, and have perhaps been the biggest causes of my disdain for the popular messaging app. The new beta, WhatsApp version 2.12.560, rolled out today and features (among other things) quick reply, solid wallpapers and new multiple-selection tools and options.
