BlackBerry Keyone: Teardown reveals addition of adhesive to prevent screens from popping off

The BlackBerry Keyone is a pretty solid phone, especially as far as the hardware is concerned. It feels like a tank in hand, but it was quickly discovered that there was a major flaw — the phone didn’t have any adhesive behind the display to keep it in place. That led to customers having their screens pop off. Thankfully, it’s now been confirmed that BlackBerry has put a fix in place.

Android N introduces new security measures to prevent future Stagefright vulnerabilities

Last year’s particularly virulent Stragefright bug allowed attackers to perform a number of actions on an infected device through remote code execution. While Google has addressed those issues with monthly security patches, Android N will play a larger role in making sure a similar issue does not happen again.

New battery technology doesn’t combust when punctured, could prevent smartphone explosions and waste hazards [Video]

In a new NOVA documentary episode that recently aired on PBS, David Pogue hosts and checks out a next generation battery invented by Mike Zimmerman that won’t explode like the Samsung Note 7 (or create a thermal event) even when cut or punctured. With the lithium-ion waste fire at Samsung’s SDI battery factory this week, it’s clear the evolution of batteries should not only focus on capacity, function and end-user safety, but should also consider the employees that produce batteries and the waste’s environmental impacts…
