Opinion: There are lots of great Android phones coming this fall, but I’m most excited about V30

Things are about to get exciting in the mobile landscape with just every Android OEM, as usual, prepping to release more new flagship smartphones. In the crowd there’s Google, Samsung, LG, Andy Rubin’s Essential, Huawei, Moto, and others prepping new releases. It goes without saying that there’s a lot to look forward to, but there is one I didn’t expect to be so excited about: the LG V30.

Which of Moto’s 10 phones this year are you most interested in? [Poll]

Before it was purchased by Lenovo, Motorola had three distinct smartphone models that were each targeted at a particular type of consumer. There was the flagship X line, the G line for those on a budget but still wanted decent performance, and the E line for those who just needed a dirt cheap smartphone. Now, Moto makes so many different phones that it’s hard to differentiate them.

Opinion: With Pixel in the picture, 2017 could be one of Google’s most important years ever

Google has finally, officially entered the hardware game. When SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer took to Twitter a few days prior to the event and stated that eight years down the line we would remember October 4 as a day just as important as the birth of Android itself, I strongly believe that this move is what he referred to. Not just the Pixel phones, not just the Assistant, but rather a unified — if a bit prototypical — package that marries the two under the label “Made by Google”.

And what that means, if my understanding is correct, is that over at Mountain View things are just getting started…

Alphabet has surpassed Apple to become the most valuable company in the world

Alphabet’s just-released Q4 earnings has seen its stock price rise in after hours trading, resulting in the Mountain View-based company passing Apple to become the most valuable company in the world. The company’s market capitalization was 7.6 billion at close, and while the price is still fluctuating after hours, Alphabet’s market cap will be over 0 billion tomorrow if these prices hold…

Google open sources ‘Parsey McParseface’, the ‘world’s most accurate parser’

Google announced today that it has open sourced a neural network system called SyntaxNet. This release, Google says “includes all the code needed to train new SyntaxNet models on your own data.” Perhaps more notably, however is the inclusion of “Parsey McParseface” (no, there doesn’t seem to be any real story behind this name), an English parser that the company has pre-trained to analyze English text…
