Honor launches ‘Youth Edition’ Honor 8 Lite & flagship Honor V9 in China

Honor has today taken the wraps off of two new smartphones for China: the mid-range Honor 8 Lite and the flagship-level Honor V9. Evleaks shares an image of a mysterious new Huawei phone set for 2017 [Update: Mate 9 Lite]

Update: It appears Blass has deleted his tweet, which makes sense because it turns out that this device is just the Mate 9 Lite (or perhaps the already-announced Honor 6X?)

Evan Blass, otherwise known as Evleaks, has today shared an image of a supposed “Huawei GR5” smartphone set for sometime in 2017. That doesn’t make sense, however, since the Huawei GR5 is actually the name of the Huawei 5X for Canada. Still, this does appear to be a new Huawei phone…

Unreleased 5.2-inch Huawei P9 Lite with full HD screen shows up on European retailer site, priced at $305

Just under two weeks ago, we attended Huawei’s launch event for the P9 and P9 Plus. Unusually, the company didn’t use the event to show off the entire P9 range which will eventually make it to market this year. While we’re fairly certain there will be a ‘Lite’ version of the P9 (and maybe a Max too), Huawei kept quiet on those. Fortunately, it seems retailers are planning for their arrival anyway. Romanian retail site, Cel.ro had the P9 Lite listed in three different colors and priced at 1209 Romanian Leu, or around 5.

Facebook launches ‘Messenger Lite’ for those with less-powerful Android devices

Android is the most popular mobile operating system in the world, but that means it powers more underpowered devices than any other. Especially in the developing world, there are huge numbers of people who prefer — and need — less-capable, lightweight, and not-data-hungry versions of the apps that many of us take for granted.

That’s why Facebook today launched Messenger Lite, a basic version of Facebook Messenger made for those with Android devices more than a few years old (or with less capable specs)…
