Samsung patent hints at updated Gear VR headset with position tracking and eye tracking

Even though Google’s new Daydream VR platform has impressed us, there’s still no doubt that Samsung’s Gear VR headset is one of the best on the market today, even if it only works with Samsung’s devices. However, it still faces many of the same issues that all other mobile VR platforms face, most notably the lack of position & facial tracking. However, now it seems that Samsung is working on adding that functionality to an updated version of its headset.

Google is planning to bring the outside world into an eye-tracking VR headset

Aside from the Pixel and the Assistant, which certainly were the stars of Google‘s October 4 show, we noticed that the company put a lot of emphasis on virtual reality too, first introduced via its software platform Daydream back at this year’s I/O and now fully launched into the world with the View headset.

But there’s still more in the making…

PSA: Daydream View VR headset and Chromecast Ultra now available for pre-order

When Google announced their brand new Pixel phones, they also unveiled the Daydream View — a VR headset that is compatible with the company’s Daydream VR platform — and the Chromecast Ultra — capable of streaming 4K content. Starting today, both products are available for pre-order.

OnePlus announces Loop VR headset, says OnePlus 3 will be “the world’s first global shopping experience in VR”

UPDATE: It happened really fast, but the 30,000 Loop VR headsets are already gone. However, as per Carl Pei, some of the orders placed didn’t go through fully, and pending, missed payments will result in cancelled orders.

If there is a big trend going on now in mobile, that’s virtual reality. Last week at Google I/O, we saw the Mountain View company announcing its new VR-dedicated platform, Daydream, which will be compatible with Android N and a lot of the devices that will come throughout the rest of 2016 and beyond.

One of those phones will likely be the OnePlus 3, which the company’s co-founder Carl Pei today announced will repeat its virtual reality launch with, and will do so with its own newly revealed Loop VR headset…

After delays, you can now buy HTC’s $799 Vive VR headset w/ shipping this week

Starting today, HTC’s Vive VR headset is available to purchase direct from HTC at in at least 24 countries with the device expected to ship to customers in the next 2-3 days. And it’s also being made available to preorder at select retail partners including Microsoft Stores, GameStop and Micro Center with those orders expected to arrive beginning sometime this week.

HTC originally launched preorders in February and started shipping in April, but until this week orders have been backed up and the company has been experiencing shipping delays and complaints from preorder customers.

As HTC shifts focus to virtual reality, executive teases upcoming mobile VR headset

These are not the best days for HTC. The Taiwanese company has been stumbling for quite a while, both financially and in the eye of critics and consumers. One thing seems to have paid off, however: its VR efforts. That’s why, as per a CNET interview, the company is looking forward to progressively shifting its core business to that…
