Earlier in the year, we reviewed Acer’s Chromebook 11 C731 – a solid offering for around 0 that our Hayato Huseman said “makes a great budget laptop” for those looking for an inexpensive computer for note-taking, web-browsing, etc. Acer just announced an updated version of this with the C771, and like the C731 before it, this latest model is focused directly at customers in the education and commercial spaces.

Google is apparently working on a competitor to the Amazon Echo Show

Earlier today we received a pair of juicy tips via email that we couldn’t yet verify, and they mentioned a potentially important forthcoming Google product that we’d only heard whispers about once before: a competitor to the Amazon Echo Show.

Now, thanks to TechCrunch’s apparent quick corroboration, we know that this information likely paints an accurate picture of Google’s plans for such a device. Apparently Google has an Echo Show competitor in the works with a 7-inch display and support for lots of its own services.

Sony beats Google’s Pixel, begins pushing out Feb. security patch to several Xperia phones

Every month Google gives device manufacturers an updated build of Android with security patches that remove vulnerabilities and fixes bugs. Although we normally see these patches hitting Pixel and Nexus devices first, it would appear that Sony is on top of its game this month and is already rolling out the February security patch to several of its handsets before it arrives on any of its competitor’s devices…

PSA: Google will actually sell products in its pop-up shops opening this week

Google will be selling products at its brick-and-mortar pop-up shops starting this year, Google has confirmed to The Verge. We’ve known about these pop-up shops set to open this week since earlier this month (and Google’s site said “Shop”, so we assumed you’d be able to shop), but now we know for sure that you’ll be able to walk in and purchase some of Google’s new products.

Alphabet reports Q3 2017 revenue of $27.7 billion, beating expectations [Livestream]

Alphabet has just released its Q3 2017 results, with earnings of .72 billion, up 24% from the same quarter last year. These numbers cover July to September of this year and beat analyst expectations, with the stock up over 4% in after-hours trading.
